French defender Patrice Evra inked a new four-year deal that will keep him tied at Manchester United until 2012.

Evra joined the Red Devils in 2006 and his contract was set to expire next summer. He has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford but the new deal put an end to speculation.

"Patrice has been a key part of the Club's success in the last two seasons," manager Alex Ferguson told the club's official website.

"He's developed into one of the best full-backs in world football and his infectious personality has helped build the incredible team spirit that exists at Old Trafford."

Evra has been a key figure in Manchester’s Premier League and Champions League triumphs.

“It's a pleasure and an honor to be part of this fantastic side and to be coached by Sir Alex Ferguson and his staff. United is more than a club - it's a family I am proud to be a part of and that's why it's always been a first choice for me,” he said.
