Even though he was not on the scoresheet in Friday's 4-1 thrashing of France, the Real Madrid goal machine was more than satisfied with the match's outcome.
"We are still trying to get our heads round this," Van Nistelrooy was quoted by BBC Sport.
"We couldn't expect this as we didn't have the best of form before the tournament started.
"Now it seems everything is falling into place, confidence is there and it lifts the team and makes a lot of difference I think.
"I tried to do my job - I played a lot with my back to goal and it worked well."
Down to Earth
Ruud's Real teammate Arjen Robben was instrumental in the Berne clash, but the explosive winger is eyeing further progress in Europe's top competition.
"We have to be quiet of course. We have played two terrific teams - two of the best teams in the world," said Robben.
"They are great results but we have to stay down to earth. We have one more game in the group but then if we lose we are out and then this is all for nothing."
