The international playmaker started his program in Germany, where Ahli are holding their pre-season camp.
"Abou-Treika is making progress," Ahli doctor Ehab Ali told the club's website on Monday.
The 29-year-old said earlier in June that he will be ready for Zamalek clash in the African Champions League on July 20th.
Ahli and Zamalek were drawn in one group in the quarter-finals of Africa's premier club competition.
Fears have been rife that the influential midfielder will be still troubled by knee pain by the time of the Cairo derby.
"Abou-Treika wants to make a comeback as soon as possible," Ali said.
