Turkey's attempts to retrieve suspended goalkeeper Volkan Demirel for the EURO 2008 semi-final clash with Germany failed as UEFA turned down an appeal to cut the goalie's initial two-match ban.
Volkan was sent off in Turkey's 3-2 Group A win over Czech Republic after an off-the-ball incident with Jan Koller.
Apart from a long injury list, the Fenerbahce guardian is among four other Turkish players who will miss the Germany game through suspension.
However, Volkan's deputy Rustu Recber proved to be a more-than-enough replacement in the quarter-finals tie with Croatia, saving a crucial penalty shootout from Mladen Petric.
