France keeper Coupet joins Atletico Madrid

France and Lyon keeper Gregory Coupet has joined Spanish side Atletico Madrid, the French side announced Friday.<br>

France and Lyon keeper Gregory Coupet has joined Spanish side Atletico Madrid, the French side announced Friday.

The 35-year-old goalie won seven French League titles with Lyon but opted for a move to Spain following a dismal EURO 2008 campaign.

Lyon would receive 500,000 euros should Coupet help Atletico reach the Champions League.

Coupet's initial contract with Lyon was set to expire in 2010.
