منتخب مصر ينتظر القرعة

Egypt are seeking to find a new national team to face on August 20th following the cancellation of the friendly game against Iran.

The Pharaohs were due to meet Asian heavyweights Iran as both sides prepare for the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

However, the match was called off for political reasons.

Egypt's shaky relations with Iran took a fresh twist after the emergence of a new Iranian documentary over the assassination of former president Anwar Al-Sadat.

The documentary film was deemed offensive by the Egyptian government senior leaders.

Iranian Football Federation will reportedly complain to football world governing body FIFA over Egypt's decision to withdraw from the match.

New Friendly

Egypt's technical staff is due to hold a meeting next week to reach an agreement over an alternative plan.

"Sudan are most likely to be Egypt's opponent in next month's friendly," the national team's assistant coach Shawki Gharib told FilGoal.com.

Egypt are joint leaders with DR Congo in Group 12 of the World Cup qualifiers. Both sides have nine points, three ahead of Malawi.
