The Egypt striker, who joined Wigan from Zamalek on a season-long loan, scored on his Premiership debut but his side slumped to a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United.
It was Zaki’s third goal in as many games for the Latics.
“If we have unearthed another diamond, and he keeps his feet on the ground, and keeps on progressing then he’s got an outstanding chance,” Bruce told Wigan’s website.
“Zaki is exactly what I seen when I went to see him in Egypt. And when I saw him bulldoze around the place I was thinking, could he do that in the Premiership?
“On the evidence today, yes he can.”
Wigan full-back Mario Melchiot also heaped praise on the 25-year-old hitman.
“He looked very bright for his first start in the Premier League,” the Dutch defender told Sky Sports.
“He was following every ball that came into the box.”
