Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is set to be sidelined for up to three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury, the Merseyside giants announced on their official website on Monday.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is set to be sidelined for up to three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury, the Merseyside giants announced on their official website on Monday.

The Spanish hitman caused much concerns at Liverpool after he limped off during the team's goalless draw with Aston Villa in the Premiership on Sunday. However, the club's medical staff confirmed that the 24-year-old will be out for few weeks following the injury.

"A scan this afternoon has confirmed a hamstring tear in Fernando's right leg. He is expected to be out for between two and three weeks" read a statement on Liverpool's official website.

After his withdrawal from the Spanish team facing Bosnia Herzegovina and Armenia in Europe's World Cup qualifiers next week, Torres will face a race against time to catch Liverpool's Premiership clash against Manchester United on September 13th.
