Manchester City new boy Vincent Kompany launched an attack on former club Hamburg, a few weeks after leaving the Bundesliga side.

Kompany blamed the HSV board, specifically chief executive Bernd Hoffmann, for the lack of trophies at Nordbank Arena in recent.

"Hamburg can't cope with big-money transfers," Kompany was quoted by German daily Bild.

"He (Hoffmann) belongs to the type of people who know something about finances, but not much about football.

"The club has not won a title for more than 20 years, yet Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany.

"The players alone cannot be blamed for the lack of success."

Kompany is now part of the Citizens' new system, led by Arab oil-rich owners Abu Dhabi United Group, who promised to bring silverware to the City of Manchester.
