Five times World Champions Brazil could only manage a disappointing goalless draw against Bolivia in the World Cup qualifier held in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday.

Despite maintaining possession throughout the whole game, Brazil failed to convert such domination into goals.

The Bolivians showed a lot of resilience and deployed an organized defense despite playing one man down for most of the second half following Ronald Garcia's dismissal in the 52nd minute.

In another qualifier Argentina was similarly held to a 1-1 draw against Peru in Lima.

The game was a tight affair and the Argentines had to wait till the 82nd minute before opening the score line through Inter's Esteban Cambiasso.

However, Alfio Basile's men couldn’t hold on to their lead for the remaining minutes as Juan Fano scored a 93rd minute equalizer for the home side.

The results leave both Brazil and Argentina in second and third place of the Conmebol World Cup qualifiers with 13 points each.
