Wigan Athletic will revive their interest in signing Middlesbrough striker Mido when the transfer window re-opens in January, The People reported on Sunday.

The English paper stated that Wigan boss Steve Bruce wants to land the Egypt frontman to compensate for the expected departure of Emile Heskey.

Veteran striker Heskey is likely to activate a clause that allows him to move on in the summer.

The Latics hope to sign a replacement before then and are ready to table a £6million offer to prize Mido away from the Riverside.

Wigan would try to lure another Egyptian in Mido after being impressed with the impact Amr Zaki has made since his arrival on a season-long loan from Cairo giants Zamalek.

Zaki scored five goals in as many games for Wigan. He is the joint top scorer in the Premiership with Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe.

Mido's Problems

Mido said he considered moving to Wigan before the closure of the transfer window as he sought more regular football.

The 25-year-old has been used mainly as a substitute by Boro boss Gareth Southgate so far this season.

Nevertheless, Mido managed to score three goals in four Premiership games.

He started his first league game against Portsmouth on Saturday after Turkish forward Tuncay Sanli picked up an injury.

Mido scored Middlesbrough's solitary goal in the 2-1 defeat to Pompey at Fratton Park.
