Middlesbrough midfielder Mohamed Shawky has resumed full training with the team after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Boro's official site stated that the Egyptian was present at the team's training ground at Rockliffe on Tuesday, following the injury he picked up while on international duty.

Shawky could return to action when Boro face European champions Manchester United in the Carling Cup third round tie at Old Trafford next week.

However, the 27-year-old will not be available for next Saturday's North East derby at Sunderland.

Tuncay Blow

Meanwhile, Boro are set to miss Turkish winger Sanli Tuncay for up to six weeks due to a knee injury.

It is a real shame for Tuncay," said manager Gareth Southgate.

"However, we have a lot of strength in that area and his absence will provide opportunities for other lads in the squad."

The in-form Mido is a major candidate to replace Tuncay and team-up with Brazilian forward Afonso Alves in Boro's frontline.
