"In the last league game there were eight youth team products. The team played a great game and I have to congratulate the players and the coaches," Laporta told reporters after the game.

Coach Josep Guardiola, who was in charge of Barcelona B team last season, has decided to promote some of his men into the first squad.

"Against Racing we played well, but the result did not come. In the Champions League things improved, but (against Sporting de Gijón) we really hit form," he added.

"We are on the right path, but we must not be over-confident. We have to continue playing with the same spirit and by working hard and playing as a team," concluded the Barca chief.

Barcelona were impressive in their first two league games but managed only to get one point as they were beaten by Numancia and held by Racing Santander.

The Blaugrana were off to a winning start in the Champions League, beating Sporting Lisbon 3-1 at Nou Camp.
