Frenchman Bruno Metsu has agreed terms with the Qatar Football Federation to take over the national coach succeeding to Uruguayan coach Jorge Fossati.

Metsu is in Doha now to finalize the deal and be officially unveiled.

Fossati, who made a huge impact with Qatar, had to step down just three weeks ahead of a crucial 2010 World Cup qualifier against Australia citing health reasons.

This is while Metsu quit as coach of United Arab Emirates on Sunday after conceding two home defeats in the World Cup qualifiers against North Korea and Saudi Arabia.

"Metsu knows Qatar and that was the right choice to take," President of the Qatar football Federation Sheikh Hamad Ben Khalifa said.

The former Senegal boss had a successful spell at Qatar as he won the league title with Al-Gharaffa.

The deal should be concluded on Thursday.
