Afonso Alves
Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate is confident that Brazilian striker Afonso Alves will be back to his scoring form and deliver his goods for the team.
"We believe that Afonso will score goals for us. His record says that he will," Southgate told Skysports.com.
The 27-year old striker finished the season on a high as he bagged seven goals in the final six games.
Southgate brought him in January 2007 for a record signing of £12million and hoped his marksman would be on fire this season.
"We know what Afonso is capable of doing and that's why we will continue to support him," added the Boro boss.
"He's been on target. It's only goalkeepers' saves and goal-line clearances which have prevented him from adding to that.
"His shot against West Brom which hit the bar was the sign of a goalscorer. He was very unlucky not to score from that effort," concluded Southgate.
