Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt said that his team’s 3-2 win over Manchester City on Sunday showed that The Reds can compete for this season’s Premiership title.

After falling two goals down in the first half, a Fernando Torres brace and a late Kuyt third completed the brilliant comeback to earn Liverpool full points at Eastlands.

“We try to make a statement every week. Our target is just to win every game and try to be there by the end of the season,” The Dutchman told Liverpool’s official website.

“It was vital to keep pace with Chelsea before the internationals. We can leave with a good feeling.”

The win was Liverpool’s final game before next week’s World Cup qualifiers, and Kuyt insisted that Liverpool will be ready comes the end of the league break.

“We've already had one international break and we came back in our first game after it and beat Manchester United, so I wouldn't say it comes at a bad time.”

“Anyway, we don't need any excuses. We'll just keep on going and see how we do against Wigan in our next game,” concluded the former Feyenoord man

Liverpool are currently second in the league with an unbeaten record of five wins and two draws.
