Hossam Ghaly made a surprise appearance in Tottenham reserves' 3-2 defeat to Portsmouth reserves on Monday.

The Egyptian played his first game this season, despite being one step away from leaving White Hart Lane.

Ghaly played full 90 minutes and was involved in Adel Taarabt's second goal for the Londoners. He also had an attempt denied by the post.

It is believed that a contingent of Spurs fans have called for bringing back Ghaly into action, amid the team's dismal Premier League campaign so far.

The 27-year-old has been an outcast since his infamous shirt tantrum back in May 2007, when Martin Jol was in charge.

Ghaly is linked with a loan move to a Championship side in the near future, with Birmingham City, Sheffield United and Bristol City all reportedly showing interest.
