Ahli winger Gilberto scored as Angola came from behind to beat Niger 3-1 in their World Cup qualifier on Sunday but they were eliminated despite finishing second in their group.

Niger took the lead in the 20th minute through Malam Moussa but an own goal by goalkeeper Daouda Kassali shortly after the restart leveled the score.

Gilberto put Angola ahead in the 68th minute mark before Ze Kalanga sealed the victory five minutes later.

Although Angola finished second in Group 3 behind leaders Benin, they bowed out after failing to muster the points needed to progress as one of the eight second-placed teams.

The 2010 Nations Cup hosts missed out on making a second successive appearance in the World Cup, having made their debut in the 2006 tournament in Germany.
