Zaki, Abou-Treika compete for Africa's top award

Wigan striker Amr Zaki and Ahli forward Mohamed Abou-Treika have been nominated top contenders for this year's African footballer of the year awards.

Wigan striker Amr Zaki and Ahli forward Mohamed Abou-Treika have been nominated top contenders for this year's African footballer of the year awards.

The African Football Federation (CAF) decided to hold two best players' award this season including one for superstars plying their trade within the continent.

The second award which is for the best footballer playing in or outside Africa will be decided by votes of the 53 coaches leading all CAF affiliated countries.

Shortlists for each award include five players and the final decision over the Best players will be taken in December.

Shortlist for best African footballer playing within the continent:

Mohamed Abou-Treika (Ahli, Egypt), Ahmed Hassan (Ahli, Egypt), Flavio Amado (Ahli, Angola), Tresor Mputu Mabi (TP Mazembe, DR Congo), Stephen Worgu (Enyimba, Nigeria).

Shortlist for best African footballer playing in Africa or abroad:

Mohamed Abou-Treika (Ahli, Egypt), Amr Zaki (Wigan Athletic, Egypt), Didier Drogba (Chelsea, Ivory Coast), Michael Essien (Chelsea, Ghana), Emmanuel Adebayor (Arsenal, Togo).
