"The negotiations are in progress," Al-Qaeyi told reporters following Ahli's 1-0 victory over Enyimba in the African Champions League semis on Saturday.
The Egyptian champions are long-time admirers of Worgu, who leads the Champions League scorers' charts with 13 goals.
Reports said that Sudan's Merreikh are closer than Ahli to signing the 19-year-old forward.
The Sudanese side had reportedly agreed on Worgu price tag, whereas the five-time African champions are a bit reluctant.
Enyimba demand $1.5 million while Worgu wants $1 million per season.
"We are now negotiating the financial terms and hope we can seal the deal for a lower price," Al-Qaeyi said.
