Stoke City widened the misery of nine-man Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 home victory in the Premiership on Saturday.

Spurs are languishing at the bottom of the league table after mustering just two points from eight games.

Spanish manager Juande Ramos, who took over at the club in October 2007, faces an uncertain future following Tottenham's worst start to a season since 1912.

Tottenham defender Gareth Bale saw red after 17 minutes for bringing down Tom Soares inside the area.

Danny Higginbotham converted the resulting penalty to give Stoke the lead.

Striker Darren Bent drew Tottenham level in the 25th minute in a controversial fashion.

Alan Hutton's shot was deflected into the path of Bent, who fired past Thomas Sorensen from close range. However, Television replays suggested that he was in an offside position.

Rory Delap restored Stoke's advantage eight minutes after the restart when he connected with a low cross at the far post to tap into an empty net.

Tottenham had defender Michael Dawson dismissed in stoppage time for a tackle on Mamady Sidibe.
