Worgu ignored Ahli's bid
Enyimba star and Ahli-target Steven Worgu has arrived in Khartoum to agree terms with Merreikh over a move in January.

Sudanese press ran pictures for the 19-year-old striker Monday while holding Merreikh flag upon arriving at the airport, where officials from the club were waiting for him.

"I preferred Merreikh to Ahli because the Sudanese club chairman was more serious in bringing me here," Worgu was quoted as saying by local paper Goal.

"The warm reception at Sudan was delightful, I hope to live up to the expectations," added Worgu, who leads the scorers' charts in the African Champions League with 13 goals.

According to the same paper, Merreikh chairman Gamal Al-Wali held extensive talks with Worgu's agent over the past few days to lure him from Ahli.

Al-Wali said that Worgu will help Merreikh claim more titles and glory.

"The Sudanese league has become the preferable destination for all African talented footballers instead of Europe, and landing Worgu will make it more popular," he said.

Ahli marketing manager Adli Al-Qaeyi said earlier this week that the Egyptian champions are closing on Worgu.

The Nigerian Tribune, a Nigerian daily, claims that Enyimba coach Maurice Cooreman made the CAF Champions League top scorer changes his mind and snub Ahli's bid.

Enyimba demanded $1.5 million while Worgu wanted $1 million per season, but that seemed as much for the Red Devils.
