Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' scored a powerful free-kick to secure Middlesbrough a home draw against West Ham in the Premiership on Saturday.

After starting the game on the bench, Mido came on in the second half to level the score in the 82nd minute after West Ham took the lead through Hayden Mullins on 21 minutes.

The game kicked off with a lively pace but with no real chances for either team.

However, West Ham opened the deadlock when Mullins took full advantage of Middlesbrough's sloppy defense by bringing down the lose ball and firing his effort in off the bar.

The visitors could have added a second few moments later. James Collins' powerful free kick went through the Middlesbrough wall before whistling past Ross Turnbull.

The home side looked a bit better after the interval, but it was West Ham that went close once again.

Jack Collison was released by Craig Bellamy to find himself one on one with Turnbull, but the latter produced a brilliant save to prevent Collison from stretching the Hammers' lead.

On 66 minutes, Mido was introduced in place of Afonso Alves and the former Spurs striker made an immediate impact as Boro pilled on the pressure.

Eight minutes from time, Mido fired a left-footed free-kick from outside the box past the West Ham wall and keeper Robert Green to equalize for the hosts.

The 25-year-old nearly scored again minutes later, but this time Green did well to save Mido's effort.

Middlesbrough survived a late scare when Tunbull produced a brave double save denying both Bellamy and Lee Bowyer from winning West Ham the points.
