Ahli keeper Amir Abdul-Hamid said that his courageous performance in the 2-2 draw against Coton in the CAF Champions League final second leg proved his critics wrong.

The 29-year-old produced one of his best displays in an Ahli shirt, helping the Red Devils to their sixth Champions League title.

"My showing today proved that I'm worthy of being Ahli's first choice guardian," Abdul-Hamid said after the game.

"However, I have to say that all my teammates helped me improve myself."

After Coton's second goal, Abdul-Hamid made several heroic saves to deny Coton from scoring a third.

The trophy will be the keeper's first as Ahli's first keeper, after years of living in the shadows of Essam Al-Hadari, who left the club for FC Sion in Switzerland last season.

Abdul-Hamid dedicated the big win to the late Mohamed Abdul-Wahab, who was an integral part of Ahli's Champions League winning team in 2005.
