Bayern Munich right-back Willy Sagnol said that he might be forced to quit professional football due to recurrent injuries.

The French international is yet to feature for the Bavarians this season, after undergoing an achilles surgery following his participation at EURO 2008.

"I came back in pre-season full of desire, but during the preparation I had a problem with my Achilles tendon," he said.

"I had to have an operation which means my recovery will be longer than predicted."

The 31-year-old has endured bad luck with injuries over the last few years, as he was sidelined for eight months during the 2007/08 season.

The former Monaco man added that recovery from last summer's operation hasn’t been going as good as expected, which influenced his decision to consider retirement.

"The hardest thing is not knowing when I could play again. My priority is to find out if I can play football again or not.

"If things have not been resolved by May, my retirement will be certain."
