The 31-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season, and earlier reports suggested that he might be on his way out of the Allianz Arena in January.
"PSV is a serious option (if I am to leave Bayern). The interest flatters me. When I left there three years ago I said I would return one day," Van Bommel told Radio 538.
The Dutch international is already a living legend at PSV, as he won four league titles and scored 46 times in six seasons for the Eindhoven club between 1999 and 2005.
When asked about his contract status with Bayern, Van Bommel said that he will be left with no other choice but to leave the club if the board don’t offer him a new deal.
"I don't know what they are going to say. If they don't want me anymore, we will think about other options."
Despite earlier announcing their interest in signing Van Bommel, PSV officials admitted that it'd be difficult to lure the player away from Bayern.
"I understand no one can leave Bayern in the winter transfer window," Arie Van Kraay, who's in charge of the PSV's transfer told Algemeen Dagblad.
"We could, for example, make a bid of say €1million (£850,000) for a player who has just half a year left on his contract," he concluded.
