CF Pachuca midfielder Cristian Gimenez is hoping that his club will benefit from their Club World Cup participation last season when they take on Ahli in this year's competition.

The CONCACAF champions will be taking part for the second successive year, after they were eliminated in the competition's first round at the hands of Etoile Sahel last year.

"Last year's experience will help us in terms of our preparation and our approach. We can also learn a lot from the negative aspects," Gimenez told FIFA.com.

"Against Etoile, we never imagined we could play well, create chances and still be eliminated in our first game. In the end, they scored, we didn't and we were out."

Giminez added that this time around, Pachuca will have the advantage of playing after the end of the Mexican Primera Division.

"We expect to arrive in Japan in better shape. We'll go into the event having had a lighter schedule both in terms of games played and physical demands.

"Mexican league championship is a good tournament, so we'll be arriving in the best possible condition to do well in the World Cup," added the Argentine.

The 27-year-old concluded that his club are not just eyeing an honorary showing, confirming that they have enough potential to compete for the title.

"We're going into this year's event with the attitude that we want to be contenders. Not many people get the chance to play at two Club World Cups."
