A Newcastle United fan, who was trialled for his racial abuse towards Middlesbrough strike Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’, was not given a ban from attending Premiership games.

The Egyptian striker received racial chants during his team’s draw with Newcastle on November 29th, and the English Football Association (FA) recommended that the abusive fan should be banned from attending matches.

The incident is the second against Mido in two seasons, but instead of a ban, the Newcastle fan received a £270 with £45 costs fine.

Disappointment

Upon hearing the court’s decision, both FA and Middlesbrough spokesmen expressed their dismay that the captured fan wasn’t given a more disciplinary punishment.

"We are disappointed a banning order was not imposed," said an FA spokesman.

"It is important to send out a strong message that racist and discriminatory chanting is totally unacceptable, and that anyone found guilty will face the consequences," He added
