Chelsea manager Luiz Felipe Scolari refuted reports indicating that he is keeping tabs on Wigan Athletic striker Amr Zaki.

The Blues were one of several European giants who were believed to have expressed an interest in signing the Egypt frontman.

But in an interview published in English paper The Independent, Scolari said Chelsea were not among Zaki's suitors.

"No, no," the Portuguese coach responded when asked whether he was interested in luring Zaki to Stamford Bridge.

"I follow two or three players that I looked at and I like. But judgment is not based only on one game.

"I need to know his life, if he had played only one or two games very well and his previous history. Step by step, in three or four months, I have an idea about two or three or four players."

Wigan coach Steve Bruce recently insisted that Zaki would stay at the Latics until the end of the season at least.

The 25-year-old joined Wigan from Zamalek on a season-long loan in the close season.

He took the Premiership by storm, scoring eight goals in his first 11 league games before being sidelined by a hamstring injury.

Zaki came on as a second-half substitute in Wigan's last league game against Arsenal after recovering from the injury.
