Atletico Madrid coach Javier Aguirre said that he will accept no less than a UEFA Champions League place for his team comes the end of the season.

El Colchoneros, who finished last season's Liga in fourth spot, are currently sixth in the table with 24 points from 14 games.

"We're not interested in finishing sixth. We want to be in the Champions League and at the moment those places are taken by rivals," Aguirre was quoted by Marca.

"Any result our competitors get would not matter if we do not do our work."

After a slow start to their season, Atletico managed to crown their Champions League participation by reaching the knock-out stages.

"We are in a good run of results and I hope that we can continue like this.

"I hope that we are capable of maintaining a high level of play and results to be in a good position at Christmas."
