Mohamed Abou-Treika is proud to be part of Ahli's current generation as he hopes the Reds can reclaim their status against Adelaide United on Thursday.

Ahli succumbed to a 4-2 defeat to Pachuca last Saturday, which ended their hopes of competing in the FIFA Club World Cup this year.

However, Abou-Treika remained upbeat in the wake of the stunning exit, as he spoke of his side's exceptional achievements in recent years.

"Ahli are a great club with a history of 101 years, and I believe our group maintained the success of previous generations," Treika told a press conference on Tuesday.

"We even managed to represent the club on the global scene.

"I am proud to be part of the current Ahli setup, we have achieved exceptional feats. We are the only team to reach the Club World Cup three times in a short period of time."

The Egypt playmaker relishes the troops ahead of Thursday's fifth-place playoff clash with Adelaide United in Yokohama.

"We were disappointed after the Pachuca loss, but this is football; a defeat is probable. Now we are looking forward to the Adelaide game," he said.

"A winning side always shows its true character in difficult situations like these, and that is our intention.

"This game provides a huge challenge for us, we have to prove we can play top-level football."

Treika is poised to become the competition's all-time leading goalscorer should he find the net against the Australian side, but the 30-year-old reiterated that he is only concerned about his team's success.
