Liga de Quito boss Edgardo Bauza is delighted that his side will finish as one of top two teams in the world, following their Club World Cup semi-final victory over Pachuca.
The Ecuadorians beat Pachuca 2-0 in Tokyo on Wednesday, and will meet the winner of Manchester United- Gamba Osaka clash in the competition's final.
"The team showed their discipline and potential today. We're happy as we performed without compromising our own style of play," Bauza said in the post-match conference.
"Seeing as we've made it to the final, we're one of the top two teams in the world, which is a great honor for us and for Ecuador. Now, we want to go on and become champions.
"The game went as we expected. We knew that Pachuca like to move the ball around a lot, so we had to prevent them from scoring. I am very proud of my players."
Next Game
On the other hand, Pachuca manager Enrique Meza admitted that Liga deserved their win as he looks forward to the third-place match.
"Liga de Quito deserved their victory today. They were better and more forceful than us, and they took their chances very well," said Meza.
"Our work and possession counted for nothing because we couldn't put away our opportunities. Now, we have to continue working hard for our next game.
"I am not disappointed with my players who performed great; all we have to do is reflect on this loss and do better in the 3rd place match."
Meza revealed his discontentment with the referee's decision to award Liga a first-half free kick, which resulted in their second goal.
"I am unhappy with the referee's decision to call the foul which resulted in the second goal. The referee is partly responsible for our defeat," added the Pachuca boss.
