Ahli midfielder Ahmed Hassan blamed bad luck for the team's two defeats in the Club World Cup.
After losing 4-2 to CONCACAF champions Pachuca in the second round, Ahli have finished the competition in sixth place after Thursday's 1-0 defeat to Adelaide United.
"We’ve been very unlucky in the two games we played. However, similar situations occur in football," Hassan said after the Adelaide defeat.
"After all, we are still African champions and we represented Egypt and the whole continent in such prestigious competition.
"However, Ahli are a top class side, and I'm sure we'll bounce back stronger."
The Egypt skipper conceded that he wasn’t at his best against Pachuca, adding that he is satisfied with his display against Adelaide before he was taken off at half-time.
