After beating Gamba Osaka 5-3 in the competition's semi-final, Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney said he is confident of his team's chances of winning the Club World Cup.

"We have an excellent opportunity to win this tournament," Rooney said after the game.

"We are European champions and we'd love to be World champions as well as not so many players get the chance to win competitions like these."

Rooney, who came on as a second half substitute against Gamba Osaka, scored twice in the space of five minutes to help Sir Alex Ferguson's men reach the semis.

"We knew it'd be a hard game and it was. They are a good side, but I can't compare them to any English team.

"We played very well, and it was also very nice to score," concluded the former Everton man.

United will face Liga de Quito of Ecuador in the World Cup final on December 21st.
