Roma captain Francesco Totti could face up to two months on the sidelines after picking up a thigh injury in Sunday's 3-2 defeat at Catania.

The veteran forward was taken off the Serie A clash after just 30 minutes, and scans confirmed a damaged thigh muscle.

"Examinations we did this morning showed there is a thigh muscle injury but it was not possible to tell the entity of the problem," said a Roma spokesman.

Initial thoughts suggest that the 32-year-old will be out for at least a month, which means he will miss the crunch league game with AC Milan on January 11th.

Totti was plagued by several injury problems in recent years, a factor which prompted his decision to quit international football.

The Giallorossi icon returned from a serious knee injury at the start of this season, following an anterior cruciate ligament operation earlier this year.
