Former Zamalek defender Amir Azmi signed for Cypriot league side AEK Larnaca in order to join the club in January’s transfer window.

The Egyptian international, who recently terminated his contract with Hacettepe Spor in the Turkish Super Lig, sealed the deal in Austria, where AEK are training during the Cypriot league break.

Azmi was in Austria to undergo trials at Austrian Bundesliga club SV Ried. However, he shifted his destination after meeting up with AEK officials.

AEK are currently struggling to avoid relegation in the Cypriot league, as the club are second from bottom in the table.

Azmi has an experience of playing in Cyprus, where he had a brief spell with UEFA Champions League newcomers Anorthosis Famagusta last season.
