Zamalek striker Sherif Ashraf has been omitted from the team’s upcoming clash against Ahli on Sunday due to technical reasons.

The former Ahli prodigy will not be taking part in the Cairo derby, alongside keeper Emad Al-Sayed, defender Karim Zekri and the midfield trio of Mohamed Ibrahim, Mahmoud Samir and Alaa Kamal.

Disappointed

From his side, Ashraf expressed his disappointment at not being picked to feature against Ahli.

"I’m really surprised by the technical staff’s decision, especially after I did well in the Ismailia training camp," Ashraf told FilGoal.com.

"Of course I’m frustrated, but it’s a technical decision and I have to respect it."

Other absentees

Defender Ahmed Magdi is also suspended for the clash after collecting three domestic yellow cards, while Mohamed Abdullah is still out with an ankle injury.

The ex- Ahli midfielder is yet to feature for the White Knights since abandoning the team’s Egyptian Cup game against Bani Obeid.

Zamalek returned to Cairo earlier on Saturday, after concluding an Ismailia training camp, part of the team’s preparations ahead of facing Ahli.

Zamalek are currently sixth in the league table with 21 points, while Ahli are third with 26 and two games in hand.
