Middlesbrough are interested in signing Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood in a deal which will see Egypt's Mido head towards Villa Park.

According to the Daily Mirror, Boro manager Gareth Southgate has grown impatient with Mido's recurrent injuries, and wants to replace him with Harewood.

Harewood recently announced his intention to find a new club, after losing his place to Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor in Villa's offence.

Mido started only 13 games since joining the Teeside club in 2007 due to a number of injuries, as well as the competition with Tuncay Sanli and Afonso Alves.

Southgate earlier tried to trade Mido with the services of Newcastle United's Alan Smith, but the deal collapsed after the latter announced he's staying at St. James' Park.
