Werder Bremen playmaker Diego is determined to keep away from alcohol, following his recent drink-driving problem.

The 23-year-old was caught by police under the influence of alcohol last Saturday, and is likely to lose his license for a month.

Despite admitting it, Diego insisted that he was not drunk as he intends not to get involved in similar situations in the future.

"Either I don't drink any wine at all or I will have myself driven by someone who doesn't want to drink," the Brazilian told Bremen's official site.

"I did drink some wine but was not drunk."

Bremen manager Klaus Allofs reflected the club's rejection to Diego's act, but stressed that no action will be taken against the Brazil international.

"He made a mistake in a part of his private life from which he will learn. We were not pleased about the headlines and we discouraged his behavior," he said.

"But that has nothing to do with the debate about discipline within the team. There will not be a fine from us."
