Manchester City have concluded the signing of Dutch midfielder John De Jong from HSV Hamburg.

After reaching advanced talks with Hamburg for signing the player over the last couple of days, The Citizens announced today that they’ve officially finalised the deal.

“Manchester City football club are delighted to announce that the signing of Nigel de Jong from Hamburg SV for an undisclosed fee has been completed,” read a statement on the club’s website.

The 24-year-old, who played 29 times for Holland, joined Hamburg from Ajax in 2006 for the humble fee of £1.2 million.

Despite refusing to announce De Jong’s price, German reports confirmed that the player sealed the move to England for around £18 million.

Delighted

From his side, De Jong confirmed that he is very happy to have joined City, adding that he’s optimistic about the club’s future.

“I feel very good and for me it is the next step in my own career after three years in Germany and I hope to be successful here at Manchester City,” he said.

“The ideas and the planning behind this Club are very hopeful and it’s a new adventure so I’m delighted to be here right now.”

De Jong is the third signing for Mark Hughes’ men during the current transfer window, after the club captured Craig Bellamy from West Ham and Wayne Bridge from Chelsea.
