AS Roma experienced defender Christian Panucci said that he wants to leave the capital club, stating that coach Luciano Spalletti doesn’t show him enough respect.

The international defender lost his regular spot in recent weeks, and he was sent to the stands after refusing to sit on the bench against Napoli on Sunday.

“I have made my decision, I'm leaving Roma, as Spalletti does not respect me,” the 35-year-old told Sky Italia.

“I spent eight splendid years in Rome and I have not yet contacted any other club.”

Panucci’s contract with the Giallorossi will expire by the end of the season, and the club’s hesitance in offering him a new deal might’ve forced the player to find a new club.

“I will try to find Panucci a new club and at least a solution to end the season. If he does have to go, I will have to work to find an alternative,” said Panucci’s agent.

Panucci has been covering every part of Roma’s defence since he joined the club from Inter in 2001.
