Inter Milan full-back Maicon criticized the Italian League's decision to suspend Adriano for allegedly hitting an opponent in the 1-0 win over Sampdoria.

Adriano, who scored the only goal of the game at San Siro on Sunday, was hit by a three-match ban after his embroilment in a penalty-box row with Daniele Gastaldello.

"So many things happen during corners, maybe every player should be suspended!" Maicon said on Telelombardia TV in support of his fellow Brazilian.

"I feel sorry for Adriano because he was working well for the team and this ban has come at a bad time.

"Adri must hold his head up high because he is a great player and we know that he will be dangerous when he comes back."

Adriano will miss Serie A games with Catania, Torino and Lecce as Inter look to preserve their position on top of the Calcio table.

The 26-year-old was just recalled by Brazil coach Dunga for next month's friendly with Italy.
