During Bayern’s 5-0 German Cup win over Stuttgart, Ribery stepped up to convert a first half penalty, but the Frenchman bizarrely chipped the ball into Jens Lehman’s hands.
“Ribery was very lenient when he took that penalty, and this is something he needs to avoid in the future,” Hoeness was quoted as saying by Bild.
Bayern coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who has reportedly asked Bastian Schweinsteiger to step up for the team’s future spot-kicks, also echoed Hoeness’ statements.
“Penalty-kicks are precious chances, and they don’t come so often, that’s why players have to be serious in dealing with them,” said the former Germany coach.
From his side, Ribery was left fuming upon hearing Hoeness’ comments, adding that the team’s matters should be dealt with personally rather than in the papers.
“If the manager wanted to let me know something, he needs to inform me himself, not through the papers,” said the former Marseille man.
“But I tell you this is my way of playing football, and I’d do it all over again if I shoot another penalty.”
