Mido

Wigan Athletic striker Mido said he wouldn't have let anyone else take the penalty during Wednesday's 1-1 Premiership draw with Liverpool.

The Egypt striker converted an 83rd-minute spot kick on his debut as Wigan further dented Liverpool's title ambitions.

"When the referee awarded us the penalty, I made sure there was no chance anyone else was going to take it!" Mido was quoted as saying by Wigan's official website on Friday.

Mido's compatriot Amr Zaki used to be Wigan's spot-kick specialist earlier in the season.

Zaki, who is on loan from Zamalek, scored ten league goals so far, three of which came through penalties.

But he had been already substituted when Wigan were awarded the penalty against Liverpool, paving the way for Mido to step-up and send Jose Reina the wrong way.

Tough Test

Wigan will face a tough test on Saturday when they play the in-form Aston Villa away from home.

Villa, who will be looking to claim their fifth successive win, lie fourth in the league table with 47 points, just one behind Chelsea and Liverpool and three adrift of leaders Manchester United.

"It's another important game on Saturday," Mido, who joined Wigan from Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season, said.

"I think Villa are one of the best performers this season and they have a great side, but hopefully we'll do well against them."
