Former Iraq boss Adnan Hamad was named new coach of Jordan, following the sacking of Nelo Vingada three days ago, the Jordanian Football Association said.

Hamad, who had a successful spell with Jordanian giants Faisali in 2006, quit Iraq last June ending his fourth separate spell with the war-torn nation.

The 48-year-old Iraqi is now handed the tough task of helping Jordan reach the 2011 Asian Cup of Nations, following a poor start to their qualifying campaign.

Portuguese coach Vingada was fired on Sunday after Jordan's 2-1 defeat to Singapore last week, leaving the team bottom of Group E.

The former Zamalek tactician was approached last December by the Cairo club for another bout, but his then-commitment with Jordan hampered negotiations.
