Nagi dished out praise for the 29-year-old goalie after the Red Devils' 2-1 victory over Sfaxien in the African Super Cup clash at Cairo stadium on Friday.
"Amir has what it takes to feature for Ahli and for Egypt as well," the goalkeeping coach said after the game. "He managed to direct the backline steadily, and all his decisions were wise.
"The game was tough, but he handled the pressure pretty professionally and put in a great performance."
Amir, who has become Ahli's undisputed first-choice keeper since the notorious departure of Essam Al-Hadari to Switzerland's Sion last year, paid tribute to his team's rearguard.
"The game was no breeze, but our defenders did their job well," stated Amir.
When asked about the goal he conceded, the guardian said: "It's our responsibility, we are all to blame for this goal."
Good Form
On the other hand, Veteran defender Wael Gomaa is convinced the victory proved all doubters wrong, saying that some critics have crossed the line over the past weeks.
"Today's win verified we are in a good form, and proved that we are still competent," Gomaa bragged.
Ahli's form notably plummeted after the FIFA Club World Cup poor show last December, and thus some pundits suggested that the Cairo giants' defense line has serious problems that ought to be addressed.
"After the Club World Cup we had so many rescheduled games in the Egyptian Premier League, therefore we put on a handful of fluctuating displays," Gomaa elaborated.
"That was quite expected, even so, we have been panned ever since. But now I guess we have silenced all critics as we usually do."
