Egypt coach Hassan Shehata gave his vote to Mohamed Abou-Treika over Amr Zaki in the 2008 African Footballer of the Year award.

Ahli playmaker Abou-Treika and Wigan Athletic striker Zaki were both included in CAF's five-man shortlist for the award.

There was confusion over Shehata's preference but the highly-respected coach remained tight-lipped on the matter.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed on Wednesday list of the coaches' votes as Shehata's support for Abou-Treika was unfolded

Zaki couldn't make the final three-man shortlist while Abou-Treika remained in the hunt until the last minute.

Arsenal and Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor emerged the winner with 74 points, 21 ahead of Abou-Treika.

Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien came third on 36 points.
