Hertha Berlin stunned Bayern Munich with a dazzling performance that saw them beat the Bavarians 2-1 in Berlin and move first the German league table.

The two teams entered the game hoping to capitalize on Hoffenheim's Friday loss, after the former league leaders were hammered 4-1 at home by Bayer Leverkusen.

Jurgen Klinsmann's men were dealt a real blow when striker Luca Toni had to be taken off in the 35 minute due to injury.

The hosts took a well earned lead three minutes later when Ukrainian strike Andriy Voronin headed Patrick Ebert's cross past the hesitant Michael Rensing.

Bayern looked better after the interval and they managed to level the score through Miroslav Klose on 61 minutes.

Lucio's long-range shot was saved by Jaroslav Drobny, and the keeper did great to save a rebound from Bastian Schweinsteiger, but the ball eventually fell in Klose's path to score from close range.

Voronin restored Hertha's lead 13 minutes from time, after being fed by a Rafael through ball.

Hertha have now moved to the Bundesliga summit with 40 points, while Bayern are third on 38, one point behind second-placed Hoffenheim.
