AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said his side's objective was to qualify for the Champions League following their surprise elimination from the UEFA Cup.

The Italian giants surrendered a two-goal lead to allow Werder Bremen to claim a 2-2 draw at the San Siro and reach the UEFA Cup round of 16 on the away goals rule.

Their hopes of claiming silverware this season have all but demolished as they trail Serie A leaders Inter by 11 points. They also failed to get beyond the Italian Cup last-16 stage.

"In any case our group is not in disarray, we have to pick ourselves up and reach our objective of qualifying for the Champions League," Ancelotti said after the game.

"Now we have to work on the psychological aspect and recover, close our ranks. Now we must focus on our only objective left, we have to end the season well."

Ancelotti's future is likely to come under scrutiny if Milan end the season empty handed.

The Rossoneri haven't won any title since lifting the Champions League trophy in 2007. Their last league triumph came three years earlier.
