Egyptian strikers Mido and Amr Zaki couldn’t prevent Wigan Athletic from losing 1-0 at home to West Ham United in the English Premiership on Wednesday.

Carlton Cole scored the only goal of the game to hand Gianfranco Zola's team the valuable away points.

Both Mido and Zaki started up front for Wigan, but the poor Wigan display helped neither of them to score for the Latics.

In the 12th minute Amr Zaki saw his looping free-kick tipped over by Robert Green in the West Ham goal.

Four minutes later and from another free kick, Green had to dive at full stretch to parry Mido's powerful shot.

The visitors took the lead after a lovely move in which Scott Parker, Mark Noble and Davide Di Michele took part was ended with a first time swerving shot from Cole.

Cole turned from hero to villain moments later when he received his marching orders for a second bookable offense.

On 40 minutes, Mido nearly equalized for Wigan but the Egyptian international's header hit the post with a header from an Antonio Valencia cross

Early in the second half, Wigan were reduced to ten men after Lee Cattermole saw a straight red for a two-footed tackle on Parker.

Zaki's participation in the game was put to an end on 64 minutes when he was replaced by Colombian hit man Hugo Rodallega.

Chris Kirkland did well to prevent West Ham from adding a second by blocking a Noble shot from the left three minutes from time.
